The Branch

The Warsaw University of Technology’s (WUT) Branch in Płock is an integral part of the University of Technology in Warsaw, which is the largest, oldest and most highly regarded (especially by employers) technical engineering university in Poland. The Płock Branch consists of two basic organizational units that are well-recognized in the academic environment for their position and reputation:

  • The Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Petrochemistry
  • The College of Economics and Social Sciences

While the mission of the Branch aligns with the overall mission of the Warsaw University of Technology, it does maintain some unique characteristics that were defined in order to address the needs of Płock itself and the region of Northern Mazovia. They include training highly qualified staff in engineering and economics, encouraging life-long learning, promoting new developments in technology and research, as well as strengthening the cooperation between financial sectors and regional authorities.

The Branch follows the formal regulations and traditions of the parent university, and thus its instructors, students, and staff form an integral part of the community of the University of Technology in Warsaw, allowing students to take full advantage of the entire educational offer, including its teaching, scientific, social, recreational, sporting and cultural resources.

The Plock Branch offers a wide range of educational programmes at various levels:

  • Undergraduate courses (Bachelor’s) in Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Machinery Engineering, Chemical Technology, Environmental Engineering, and Economics
  • Graduate courses (Master’s) in Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Machinery Engineering, and Chemical Technology, and Economics
  • Doctoral programmes in Civil Engineering and Mechanics and Machinery Engineering
  • A number of postgraduate courses

Training at the Branch is conducted at a high level, in line with the highest European standards, which has been carried out here for over four decades now. In pursuing these goals the Branch adheres to the highest standards of ethics and quality, with particular emphasis paid to the quality of education - all courses of study are accredited by the Polish Accreditation Committee. The Branch has recently been awarded a subsidy, to further support the development of knowledge and innovation by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Both teaching and research are carried out in a friendly environment within a very well-developed infrastructure, including numerous well-equipped laboratories and lecture halls, a scientific library with full access to resources of other libraries in Poland and abroad, a hall of residence and a sports hall.  There are also organizations for students to develop their various interests, such as an academic cultural centre, an academic sports association, and a student science centre, which creates opportunities and encourages student ingenuity.

The Faculty

The Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Petrochemistry has been in existence since 1983, although its current name has only been in force since 1 October 1997. The Faculty is composed of three institutes:

  • The Institute of Civil Engineering
  • The Institute of Chemistry
  • The Institute of Mechanical Engineering

The College

The College of Economic and Social Sciences was established in 1995 in order to meet the needs relating to higher education in the field of economic sciences in the region of Northern Mazovia. The College together with the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Mechanics and Petrochemistry create the Płock Branch of the University of Technology in Warsaw.
